Project Objectives:
- To study the legalization of the right of future generations, its theoretical and practical consequences on environmental law, human rights and society.
- To develop a scientific measurement of the implementation of the right of future generations using legal indicators of effectiveness. Thanks to legal indicators, we give public authorities and citizens a readable tool for the scientific evaluation of a public policy that will allow them to avoid making reforms “blindly”.
This project will build on the unpublished work of Professor Michel Prieur published in 2018 by the Francophone Institute for Sustainable Development (IFDD) agency of the International Organization of the Francophonie (OIF) and entitled “legal indicators, tools for assessing the effectiveness of environmental law.”
On November 22 and 23, we will bring together researchers who have worked on legal indicators in France and abroad in order to review the state of the art and to plan the action to be taken within the Normandy Chair for Peace in order to promote and experiment with legal indicators in the field of future generations’ rights.
