Another crazy idea I started early last decade is the Road Sharing Movement. The idea was to give spaces for people to walk and to ride along safe bike lanes. It was a seemingly impossible dream in the car-centric society of the Philippines.
In 2020 and 2021, I was able to persuade the concerned government agencies to start putting up bike lanes. The landmark bike lanes exercise of the Metro Manila Government and the concerned bicyclists is featured in Good Stories Movement- Concept film
Behind the scenes and away from the limelight of media, I advised the Department of Interior, Department of Transportation, Department of Health, Department of Environment, Department of Public Works and Highways and the Metro Manila Government to issue a joint department administrative order to put up bike lanes.
In September 2021, the dream of a wonderful bike lane was realized and local governments all over the Philippines started putting up proper bike lanes.
In Cebu, the wonderful South Road Properties is now managed by a long-time friend and a long-time believer in my crazy ideas. As Manager of the South Road Properties, he introduced the idea of putting up wide and beautiful bike lanes.
At the inauguration of the 100 Million Peso Bike lanes of the SRP, an event attended by Secretary of Highways, top executives of the Departments of Transportation, Mayors, etc., the undersigned was invited to give the keynote speech. The undersigned also joined the ceremonial first bike ride along this 6-meter wide, safe and secure, bike lane.
The Normandy Chair for Peace Leader was honored with giving the keynote address of the inauguration of the beautiful bike lane in Cebu. This is an advocacy that seemed impossible when we started it in 2011. I was then ridiculed heavily by critics and cynics.
