Prof. Montserrat Abad

Dr. Montserrat Abad is Professor of Public International Law at University Carlos III of Madrid (UC3M, Spain). Graduate in Law (University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain); PhD/Law (University Complutense of Madrid, Spain). Before joining UC3M, she was Associate Professor at University of A Coruña (Spain). 

She is currently Co-director of the International Council of Environmental Law’s International Secretariat. She is Member of the CEDIH (Centre of Studies and Dissemination of the International Humanitarian Law, Spanish Red Cross) and formerly Deputy Legal Adviser at the International Legal Department, in the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (2005-2009). She has been Visiting Fellow at BIICL (UK, 2011); LUCSUS-Lund University (Sweden, 2012); or CELI-Leicester (UK, 2018-19). Her main fields of interest, from a Public International Law perspective, are connected with terrorism and/or International humanitarian law with regard to the environment; environmental peacebuilding; and civil society issues.
